Fifth Year Schedule of The Saturday Film Discussion Group - Please Feel Free to Join Us!

 

Welcome to The Saturday Film Discussion Group.   We have recently voted to determine the films on our Fifth Year Schedule.   The list is at the bottom of this blog post.    These films are the next 13 months worth of discussion fodder for our group.  Some are individual selections and some are "double features."    Our 5th year of  discussions starts on August 20, 2022.   

The last selection of our 4th year (L'Avventura) will be discussed on July 23, 2022. 

We were formed in March of 2018.  We are about to start our fifth year or "season."  We were originally based in Southwestern Ohio with a lot of our members being from the Milford / Miami Township area.   However, we now meet via Zoom.  Therefore, the group is really open to a much wider swath of participants.   You can be located almost anywhere in the world and participate in our Zoom meetings.   We usually have between six and eight participants in our meetings and would certainly welcome a few more.  Let us know if you are interested!

We generally meet on the third Saturday of each month at 1 p.m.  Meetings usually last around 90 minutes to 2 hours.  Some people only come occasionally.  Some, no doubt, base their attendance on which film we are discussing in a particular month.

The film group works very much like a book club.  We meet once a month to discuss one or two specific pre-determined films.  The group members will be responsible for watching the film or films on their own time sometime in the days or weeks before the meeting.

Group members can see each month's selection in many different ways.  They can buy a new or used DVD of the film.  They can watch the film on a streaming service.  They can check a DVD of the film out of the library.

* The Campaign is a 1982 documentary that was part of the Middletown documentary project. The Campaign is a fairly riveting documentary about the 1979 Mayoral race in Muncie, Indiana. Alan Wilson, one of the two candidates who is featured in the documentary, has agreed to join us in our Zoom meeting to discuss what it was like to have a documentary made about a portion of one's life. Unfortunately, the other candidate featured in the film (“Big Jim” Carey) has passed on.   The Campaign is available to watch on the KANOPY streaming service.
